Runner Information

                RUNNER’S INFORMATION

Please read carefully:

SHUTTLE BUSES ARE FOR MARATHON AND HALF-MARATHON RUNNERS ONLY: If you are a guest at the Hilo Hawaiian Hotel or any of the surrounding hotels you may take the shuttle to the start, which will leave from the Lobby Area of the Hilo Hawaiian at 4:30 am. and 4:45 am. Only two buses will be provided from that area.

Runners who are not staying at the hotels are asked to drive to Hilo’s Bay Front and park in the lot next to Pauahi St. From this parking lot there will be three buses taking runners to the start – the first boarding at 4:30 am, followed by 4:45 and 5. The first bus that leaves will make a return trip and pickup any late runners in the parking lot, but the bus driver is instructed to leave Bay Front at 5:20. Please do not wait for the last bus as it carries only 50 passengers and if there are more than 50 runners we will not be able to accommodate everyone to the start. Plan on coming early and taking the earliest bus to the start.

Only runners in the marathon and half-marathon run should take the shuttle. There is no shuttle service back to the finish line for family members and observes.

AID STATIONS: Water will be provided for the first 10 miles of the race, then there will be water and Gatorade made available for the rest of the race. Runners are encouraged to bring power gels or other easy to carry items to help aid in their performance. Please drink at every aid station and stay well hydrated.

RUNNERS AND WALKERS IN THE 3.1-MILE FITNESS RUN:

Do Not take any buses – you are required to find your own way to the Bay Front area, Canoe Paddling section, where you may park on the grass. Your run/walk start promptly at 6:30 am from the finish line area of the marathon.

SWITCHING RUNNER NUMBERS: Or wearing a number that doesn’t belong to you is a violation of Road Runner Clubs of America rules and sanctions will be brought against violators.  Also, NO BANDITS are permitted. You must be registered and wearing a running number on the front of your clothing to be considered a legal participant in this race.

VIDEO TAPING: Through out the course there will be a video photographer that will be taping portions of the race to show at a later date on cable television.

PORTABLE TOLIETS: In addition to the restrooms at the start of the marathon and 10.8 miler there will be 4 portable toilets. During the run another portable will be located at the two-mile marker adjacent to “What’s Shakin” the smoothie stand. Another portable will be near the NAS Swimming Pool in the Old Airport, just past the Aloha Airlines freight center. Restrooms are also at the beach park areas at Bay Front, 4-mile Beach Park, Richardson Beach Park, Onekahakaha Beach Park, etc.

When running, expect to see the beautiful scenes of Hilo:

 A Beautiful Rainbow

Gorgeous Ponds

Beauty on the Road
